Version Notes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
v 1.0 - First release
(Released as licenceware by Central Licenceware Register)
v 2.0 - Major rewrite of many parts of the program. Load routine now
checks the current directory, as well as all drives, and lists
all question sets found (upto 10 sets), allowing the game to
be installed onto hard disk. Some screen graphics improved.
PAL display checked for on startup.
(Game and 2 sets of questions released as shareware)
About Pic-It
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pic-It is basically a trivia type game for 2 to 5 players. However,
it has the unique feature of digitised pictures or drawn puzzles to
recognise. These are revealed a square at a time, whenever a question
is correctly answered.
Installing onto a Hard Disk
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you have enough memory available you can run Pic-It from hard disk.
Firstly, create a drawer on your hard disk called Pic-It.
Then copy all of the files, from the disk, into the new drawer, with
the exception of...
c (dir)
libs (dir)
s (dir)
Disk.info
system-configuration
Finally, if you wish to read the doc file from the hard disk, you will
need to edit the path name in the doc .info file. Simply amend it so
that it corresponds to wherever your text reader (eg. More) is located
on your hard disk.
When you register, you will also be able to copy the contents of the
extra question disk which you receive, onto your hard disk.
To do this, simply copy the Pictures directories from the new disk,
into the Pic-It directory on your hard disk. Then copy the contents of
the Questions directory on the disk, into the Questions directory
(which is inside the Pic-It directory) on your hard disk.
Loading Pic-It
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pic-It should run on any Amiga system with at least 1 Mb of memory
and a PAL display.
To load simply double click on the Pic-It icon. Once the program has
loaded there will be a short wait while the program de-crunches.
Buttons on the Title Screen
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PLAYERS - Alters the number of players taking part in the game.
Also affects the length of the game as each player has
first go at one picture. 4 players = 4 pictures etc.
TIMER - Changes the time limit for answering questions.
SOUND - Turns the music or sound effects on/off. Turning the sound off
completely will still leave some of the more necessary sound
effects enabled but will disable the most annoying ones.
PLAY - Starts the game. Will only work once a set of questions has
been loaded in.
LOAD - Loads a set of questions. (See Loading Questions section).
ABOUT - Credits and program details.
QUIT - Exits the program.
Question and Picture Indicators
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At either side of the Load button you will see two indicators.
The left one shows how full the question bank is and the right
one how many pictures are included with the current questions.
As long as these indicators are full (or partly full) you will be
able to start a game by clicking on the Play button.
If they are empty, (and they will be when the game has just loaded
in !) then you will need to load some questions.
Loading Questions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Before playing you must load in a set of questions. There are
two sets of questions (Phrases 1 & People 1) included on the
game disk. (See How to Register for details on how to get more
question sets)
Firstly insert the disk you wish to load the questions from, into
any drive (If this is your first time then just leave the Pic-It
game disk in df0:)
Click on the Load button on the title screen. This will bring up a
window showing any question packs available in the current directory
and on any disks in the disk drives. (Upto 10 sets can be listed).
Select which set of questions you want to load by clicking on the
name in the window. The name will be highlighted and the questions
loaded in.
While the questions are loading you will see the indicators filling
up, until the question bank is completely full and the picture
indicator is at least partly full.
You can now click on Play and start your game !
Note. The disk from which the questions are loaded should be left in
the same drive whilst playing, as the computer will need to access the
pictures from the same disk.
Playing Pic-It
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once into the game the computer will randomly select a picture and
cover it with nine question squares. A question mark will appear and
move around the squares.
Each player goes in turn, the current player being highlighted on the score
board. The current player stops the question mark by clicking the mouse
button or pressing a key. He or she will then be given a question in the
catagory selected.
The player answers by clicking on one of the small buttons A, B or C
or by pressing the keys A, B or C. If correct, the score for the selected
square (see Scoring) is added to the players total and that square of the
picture will be revealed. If the player wishes he or she can then take a
guess at the name or phrase that relates to the picture.
To guess, click on the green question mark button or press Return. A cursor
will appear under the picture and the guess can be typed in. On some
question packs there will be dashes under the picture to help you.
Once the guess has been typed in, the computer will show which letters
are right, and which are wrong. A completely correct guess will reveal
all of the remaining squares, and add to the player's score accordingly,
but an incorrect guess will help the other players, and will reduce the
player's score slightly.
Clicking anywhere other than on the green question mark button or
pressing any other key than Return will pass control onto the next player
who will now take their turn at answering a question.
When a picture is guessed correctly, or the picture is completely revealed
and has still not been guessed correctly, the computer will automatically
load the next picture.
The game continues until the same number of pictures have been used as
there are players in the game.
The winner of the game will then be shown.
Buttons on the Game Screen
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A, B, C, - Answer buttons. Use these to select your answer. Keyboard
alternative = A, B, C
? - Guess button. Click here to make a guess at the picture, but
only after a question has been correctly answered. Keyboard
alternative = Return
Quit - Quits game and returns to title screen. This button must be
clicked twice to avoid accidental usage. Keyboard alternative = Esc
Scoring
~~~~~~~
Questions are worth 100, 200 or 300 points depending on where they are
situated. Corner squares being worth the least and the centre square being
worth the most.
A wrong guess at the name of the picture will reduce your score by 50
points but a correct guess will yield 500 points plus 50 points for every
square still covered.
